Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Director of
the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center, NESCent (www.nescent.org), a
research center in Durham, North Carolina, USA. The Center is supported
by the National Science Foundation, and is jointly sponsored by Duke
University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North
Carolina State University.  The position of Director will be a faculty
appointment at the senior level made by Duke University.

NESCent promotes collaborative research on fundamental synthetic
questions in evolutionary biology by supporting visiting scientists in
working groups and catalysis meetings (>500 scientists/year) and
resident sabbatical and visiting scholars and postdoctoral fellows.  The
Center also has a large Informatics group and an active program in
Education and Outreach in evolutionary biology.

FIELD TECHNICIAN – Needed for long-term Florida Scrub-Jay research  
project with Dr. Steve Schoech’s Lab from the University of Memphis.   
Study involves investigation of interactions between developmental  
conditions and adult behavior as well as demographic research in this  
free-living species. Research will be conducted at Archbold Biological  
Station near Lake Placid, Florida. Successful applicant(s) will have  
an interest in animal behavior, physiology, and/or ecology and will  
have completed, or will be close to completing, a Bachelor’s degree in  
a related field. Technician must have full color vision and be  
physically capable of working long hours, seven days a week in adverse  
conditions, including extreme heat and sun exposure, loose sand, and  
dense woody vegetation.  Technician will be allowed the opportunity to  
pursue an individual research project provided it does not deviate too  
far from the main research program. Nest searching experience and/or  
experience with birds is desirable but not required. Preference will  
be given to applicants who show an interest in advanced studies in  
biology, such as graduate school. Position(s) and compensation  
dependent upon availability of funding, which will be determined in

The Department of Psychology at Texas Christian University invites
applications for a tenure-track position in Behavioral Neuroscience, at
the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2009.  Although
the area of expertise is open, the ideal applicant will have research
interests compatible with current faculty and especially in the area of
animal learning.  The Department of Psychology at TCU (www.psy.tcu.edu)
consists of 14 faculty members who oversee a Ph.D. program. Candidates
will be expected to supervise the research of graduate students, teach
classes at graduate and undergraduate levels, and show promise for

William & Mary


CONSERVATION BIOLOGIST

The Department of Biology at the College of William and Mary seeks
applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor
level in CONSERVATION BIOLOGY. The position is open to applicants
conducting research in any field or scale of conservation biology that
contributes to existing departmental strengths in molecular and
ecology/evolutionary biology. The ideal candidate will have strong
quantitative skills, a sustained research focus in conservation
biology, and the ability to integrate approaches across diverse levels
of biological organization. The successful candidate is expected to
establish and maintain an externally funded research program involving
both undergraduate and master's degree students.  Teaching expectation
is an upper-level conservation biology course with lab, and an
introductory biology lecture course (genetics, organisms, ecology and
evolution) to alternate with another course in the candidate's area of
expertise (one course per semester).  Postdoctoral research experience
is required, and previous experience teaching undergraduate courses
will be viewed favorably.
